Roundtrip flights are not a part of your trip cost. You are responsible to purchase your own flights to and from Greece. You are required to email Emmaus your complete flight itinerary so proper arrival and departure information can be managed.

 

There are some dynamics associated with your arrival in Greece and your departure from Greece that you need to consider when scheduling your flights.

WHEN TO PURCHASE YOUR AIRLINE TICKETS 

Emmaus recommends that you wait to purchase your airline tickets until after you've received notification from Emmaus that the trip is confirmed. 
Emmaus recommends that you purchase "Trip Cancellation" or "Cancel for Any Reason" insurance. Email Emmaus your complete flight itinerary once you have made your purchase.

ARRIVAL DAY: AUGUST 31 

Sunday, August 31, is the scheduled arrival day in Greece. You will need to reserve your flight arrangements to arrive in the city of Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) by 2:00 PM on August 31.  This may require a transfer in a European Airport to connect with the flight to Thessaloniki Airport.  When you arrive in Thessaloniki Airport, you will connect with the Emmaus guide to travel by bus to Kavala.  Dinner is provided Sunday evening at the hotel. 

 

FIRST TOURING DAY: SEPTEMBER 1 

Monday, September 1 is the first day of touring. You will receive a wake-up call at 6:30 AM.  Breakfast is provided Monday morning at 7:00 AM. Plan your morning for an 8:00 AM bus departure.

 

ARE YOU PLANNING TO ARRIVE IN GREECE BEFORE AUGUST 31? 

For those of you wanting to arrive in Greece a day or two prior to August 31, Emmaus is not booking advance arrangements. Please contact the hotel directly for any advance overnight arrangements you wish to make.

ARRIVAL IN A EUROPEAN AIRPORT 

You will go through passport control and customs in the first European (EU) airport you arrive in. If your first EU airport is the Thessaloniki Airport, you will go through passport control and customs there.  If you arrive to a different EU airport to transfer to a flight to Thessaloniki, you will go through passport control there and you will not need to go through passport control in Thessalonki.  

After Passport Control is Baggage Claim. While in Baggage Claim it is recommended you exchange $200 into Euros for incidental personal expenses and lunches.  You will have more opportunities to change money at ATM's and other recommended places later. Dollars are not accepted, so you will need some Euro's available when you want to pay by cash.

After you collect your luggage in Baggage Claim you will meet with the Emmaus guide to direct you to your group bus arrangement.

 

TRANSPORTATION FROM THE THESSALONKI AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL IN KAVALA 

If you arrive to the Thessaloniki Airport by 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 31, you will connect with the group bus arrangement at the airport.  Our guide will meet you after customs and baggage claim with an "EMMAUS" sign.  The bus journey is about 3 hours to our hotel in Kavala.

DEPARTURE DAY: SEPTEMBER 9 

The scheduled departure day is September 9.

It is recommended that you arrange your departure flight to depart late morning or early afternoon on September 9.  

 

TRANSPORTATION FROM THE HOTEL TO THE AIRPORT 

There will be a group bus arrangement provided in the morning for all travelers who have flights in the late morning and early afternoon.  If you choose not to use the group bus to the airport, you are able to book a taxi from the Athens hotel.  The taxi will cost between 45-65 Euros, depending on time of day.
